What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the Australian Government's initiative to provide funding and support for people with permanent and significant disability. It's designed to help you achieve your goals and live independently by providing reasonable and necessary supports.

Who is Eligible?

To access the NDIS, you must:

Be under 65 years old
Live in Australia and be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa
Have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to take part in everyday activities

Budget Categories

NDIS funding is divided into three budget categories:

Core Supports: Day-to-day supports including assistance with daily activities, transport, and consumables
Capacity Building: Supports to build independence and skills
Capital Supports: Higher-cost items like assistive technology and home modifications

Plan Management Options

You can manage your NDIS plan in three ways:

Self-Managed: You manage your own funding and pay providers directly
Plan-Managed: A plan manager handles payments on your behalf
NDIA-Managed: The NDIS pays registered providers directly

Common NDIS Questions

How long does it take to get approved for the NDIS?
